FIT and FOO

So it's been a hectic few weeks.  I was meaning to post this shortly after the weekend (7/19), but everything has just slipped away.

So I finally got a car to replace my truck.  Thanks to my brother in law I purchased a Honda FIT.  I love it!!!

(day 1 in the driveway)

I was super apprehensive about downsizing from something that can haul almost anything to something that can't haul much.  After buying a house that needed so much work and making my truck work overtime for that project I was a little scared.  But I felt God opened all the doors for me to sell and it was a total God thing on the purchase of the car.

After I sold my truck on Wednesday, I emailed the Honda dealer I was working with in Lee Summit about 30 mins from my house.  I had just recently test drove a FIT they had and tried to work out a deal with them ,but they wouldn't give me what I needed out of my truck.  So once I sold that private party I was ready to go.  They had sold the one I drove, but had another coming in.  He asked me to make a deposit, but I didn't have time to run out there and drop it off until Friday morning (my day off) and that was the day I was going to buy.  So Thusday night before small group I called to make sure we were good to go and was informed they had already sold the 2008 FIT.  They also informed me that they were not getting another one till September 08 and it would be a new 2009 FIT. (not the car I had in mind).  So, thanks for the help Lee Summit Honda.

Now came the mad dash.  I got on the Honda site and did a 200mile radius dealer search and started calling everyone, while praying.  It is one of the most wanted cars, and now that they are stopping production of the 2008 I thought I knew I was in trouble.  So out of 20 dealerships I found 1 coming in a month from now and no deposit is made on it.  I found another 160miles away at another dealership.  A third had a deposit that some guy was supposed to pickup on Friday AM.  That dealership called me back and told me that I might have a chance on it because the guy that had the deposit wasn't looking good on his trade in and the deal might fall through.  So I put a back up deposit on it and they would know on Friday morning.  Sure enough, Friday afternoon I called and it went belly up.  Thank God!!! I wasn't looking forward to a 3hr drive one way to pickup a car.  So that Saturday morning I went up and met David Clay at Independence Honda and was well taken care of.

I love my car.  People think it is funny moving from a mid-size truck to a small car, but it is roomy inside, I have fit all kinds of stuff like 2 storm doors and 6 kitchen chairs in boxes in it this weekend.  It gets great gas mileage, and is just fun to drive.

So that same Saturday I got to hook up with my friend Drew who plays Percussion for the Foo Fighters on their tour as they were swinging through Kansas City.

It was fun to spend some time with Drew backstage and catch up and meet Dave Grohl.  Then we hung out for an amazing show.

Today is a sad day...

I am loosing my good friend of more then 9 years.

I have been praying about it, and it is time to move on.

With gas prices not getting any better and my truck getting older and older I feel it is time.  It is being sold today. :( :(

I am going to miss the old truck, from trips to Nor. Cal, the Sierras, Big Bear, San Diego, Mexico, Arizona, Las Vegas, and Kansas.  Hauling all types of stuff from work equipment to building supplies for home.  Helping people move here and there and back.

She has been faithful for 166,000 miles and 9 years and 7 month.

I am going to miss the old girl.  We have laughed and cried to together, thru the cold and thru the heat.  She has been a blessing.

Grateful

I am super grateful today and I feel like shouting it from the mountains....well at least my corner of the Internet.

Yep, I know it has been forever since I have posted, and frankly, I am a smuck.  So much has gone on in the past months it has been super hard for me to write about it.  If you want to know more you can read this and start to understand.  (ht:phg)

If you want to get caught up on some things, pictures tell a thousand words.  I have updated my gallery with some pictures from the last month or so.  You can find them here www.thewellsfamilyphotos.com

Anyways, here is what I am thankful for today:

  • I am grateful for good friends that have been there for me when I needed them the most.
  • I am grateful for the love of my family (and extended family) and being able to see them and spend time with them.
  • I found some stuff I had written from about 8 months ago and was just blown away at God and His amazing provision and hand in my life.
  • God has done a mighty work and continues to do a might work in my life and I am so blessed because of it.
  • I thank God that I have an amazing Godly woman in my life that has been such a blessing to me.
  • That God is bigger then any sin, or problem in life.
  • For His provision in my life.
  • That the Ducks won last night and I could actually watch it on TV!!!

Hope you can find somethings to be thankful for today.

Pray for my friend

Life has been crazy busy, this last 2 months.  Easter Egg Hunt, Easter, Regional campus launch.  More on all that next week when life slows down.

Yankees_big_group

Please pray for a friend and former colleague of mine from Azusa Pacific UniversityRod Cathey is the director of University Choir and Orchestra, a group I traveled with for a couple of years.  He is also the undergrad chair for the school of music as well as a wonderful teacher, friend, and man of God.  He challenged me to be and do the best I could with my gifts from God and I am truly grateful.

Below are posts from Scott's blog with more information.

Update April 4, 7:15pm
from Joel Cathey:

"The neurosurgeon just spoke with us. He seems to think, judging from the MRI, that the tumor is localized. Meaning, it didn't come from somewhere else in his body. He also thinks it's a very slow-growing tumor. He told us that the more we wait for the swelling to go down, and the less seizing he has, the more successful an operation would be. He also said that since the tumor is located in the right hemisphere, there is less of a chance that his speech would be affected by surgery. He's going to meet with us again tomorrow afternoon to discuss the next plan of action. Right now, we have to just wait and try to keep my dad comfortable.

We REALLY appreciate your prayers and support, but we ask that only family would visit the hospital. We simply can't manage it, and my dad is not at the right point in time to have non-family visitors. Thanks."

Update April 4th, 4:15pm
From Karin Cathey, Rod’s daughter-in-law:

“Rod is off the respirator, and is breathing on his own”

Update, April 4, 12pm
from Michael at AddisonRd.com

There’s been some encouraging news. Rod woke up briefly, and was able to recognize his wife Sharon. A nurse asked him to lift one finger, then two fingers, and he was able to do it correctly on his right side, but not his left. He has been in and out of consciousness since, but the fact that he woke up and responded is a very positive indicator.

An MRI is scheduled for later today, and they will decided how to proceed based on the results of that test.

Updates- April 4, morning

Yesterday evening (Tuesday, April 3rd), Rod Cathey had a massive seizure, lasting over 20 minutes. He was rushed to the emergency room by ambulance, where he continued to seize. They conducted an MRI at the hospital, and found a tumor in his brain, about 3cm across, close to the center of his right hemisphere. They had to intubate him upon arrival and haven't woken him up yet due to the high amount of pressure the tumor is putting on his brain. Once they get the swelling down, they'll be able to evaluate him further.

It's been requested that you don't call the family, as they are busy enough already.

Rod's son Joel wrote in an email: "I've been at home, trying to get rest while Ryan and Jenny are with my mom at the hospital. We're going to change shifts sometime this afternoon. I haven't heard from anyone at the hospital since about 3:00 am, but they were supposed to do an MRI this morning to determine what their options were for surgery. They know they're going to do an initial operation to analyze the tumor and/or figure out the best way to remove it.

That's all I'll know until later today. Please keep praying. I am aware that there are literally thousands of people across the country, praying for my dad. My family is so overwhelmed by the spiritual support. There is an enemy working, but God has the final say.

P.S. I know many people are asking about which hospital he's in. He's in Pomona Valley Hospital in intensive care. I'll let you know the moment he is able to have visitors, but no one will be able to see him for a while."

Weather nerd??

Snapped this pictures last night as I came back to work for the evening.  Gabe and I were chatting on the phone when I got out of my truck and was awestruck at God's beauty.  I told Gabe I would post the picture.  It was a gorgeous thunderstorm rolling in.

White on top blending from light orange to dark orange to black silhouetted in a an electric sky blue.  Lovely.

My fellow "weather nerd" posted some pictures she took like 5 minutes before me.  My fellow "weather nerd" used to give me a hard time last year when I would walk out of my office and look out the window and enjoy the thunderstorms.  Thanks pal!! :)  Now I have a window all to my own to enjoy.

I had a great time last night  just sitting and watching out the window at all the lighting and hearing the hail pounding on the roof.  I am looking forward to spring.

I have been talking to Gabe about getting a Canon 20D camera and I am strongly considering it.  There is so much to shoot here, especially in the spring and summertime.

Kansas City Penguins?

Ok,I feel like ranting a bit.  It all started last night when we were at Zios and I was watching EPSN highlights on the TV of the Penguins game while waiting to be seated.

I am fairly frustrated with Mario Lemiux and this whole act.  In fact I am willing to call shenanigans.  If you don't know what I am talking about just Google "Penguins and Kansas City" an read up.

It bothers me that they would use such a generous offer made by the Sprint center to give the Penguins a brand new home as leverage in order to hold out and get what they want in Pittsburgh.  It frustrates me more that deadlines have come and gone and nothing is happening.  There are talks with the city of Pittsburgh about a new arena and this that and the other, but nothing is official.  Plus, it still means at least another season or two at the Mellon.

Frankly, I think the Sprint Center and AEG should take the deal off the table and stop getting used.  If Mario really just wants to keep playing this game, then let them miss out on an amazing deal and get stuck at the Mellon.

Mario, I would be a fan, I would buy season seats, and I would cheer them on.  (Except for when the Ducks were in town).  Stop playing games and make up your mind.  Bring hockey to Kansas City.  I think you will be surprised.  Kansas City is waiting.  If you aren't being real about it, then knock it off so we can look elsewhere.

My friend, whom shall remain nameless for legal sakes, hasn't updated me recently on any new dirt coming out of the Sprint Center, but if I ever hear anything I will let you know.
